Technical theatre lesson one

In todays lesson we learnt about the different types of lights such as fresnels, profiles, floods ETC. we focused more specifically on profiles. where we learnt how to safely and effectively rig them. first you hook the G-clamp onto the bar and then screw it tightly. then you use the safety hook/chain onto the bar as an extra safety procedure. afterwards you take the wire and wrap it over the bar so it is away from the heat to prevent any dangers. connect the plug to the plug socket. finally adjust the angle of the light and then the lens focus and shape.

Induction Task 1

A closer look into Abbey Road

John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr. these four iconic artists formed a band as what we currently know to be the hugely successful Beatles. The Beatles have recorded and published many famous and classic albums which has influenced a lot of different styles and genre's of music which we listen today such as: Pop, Rock, HipHop and Soul. In this Blog I will be focusing on the notorious "Abbey Road" Released in 1969 it was their last recorded album. In particular i will be looking at the musical style, instrumentation, Lyrical content, Production techniques and Sound used throughout.

The first song i listened to on this album was "Come Together" immediately it creates a gritty yet powerful atmosphere. the musical style in this song is like soul meets rock and roll. i can hear influences of Elvis Presley, and definitely a lot of influence from the genre of the blues. the tone of the lead singers voices (John and Paul) compliments the genre of music and allows the listeners to fully understand the extent of the bands emotions. some of the instrumentation used in this track includes, a lead guitar, a bass, drum kit, keyboard and vocals. the bass compliments the drum kit in this song because it helps keep the song in tune and in rhythm.

This album has a lot of significant lyrical content throughout. one example of this takes place in the track "octopus's garden". this song was written and mainly sung by Ringo Starr. The song was written during a stage where The Beatles were going through a rocky stage and nearly disbanded. The song symbolises Ringo's feelings towards conflict within the band. In the key line "I'd like to be, under the sea", Ringo is showing his true feelings and is stating metaphorically that he'd rather be under the sea than where he was, in order to escape the conflict within a band. The subject of the song also includes and octopus because one time he ordered fish and chips and got squid instead, but he still enjoyed it. This song grew to be a classic because it is one of Ringo's only two songs that he has ever written and the colourful subject about living under the sea with an octopus gave a sense of euphoria to his listeners.

Abbey Road has a lot of significant production techniques. One of these is arrangement. In the song "Come Together". This song is different because the arrangement is not orthodox. it consists of segeuo which is used almost  to replace the chorus.  It is an instrumental break and it takes place after the one line chorus. This arrangement is effective because it adds to the overall atmosphere of the song.

To conclude i understand why this album is so successful and widely recognised. its a pioneer in the sense that it effectively fuses different types of genre's into one place and i can see why it made over 30 million pounds in sales
